Our life in ministry has been hard, exhausting, amazing, frustrating and joyous all wrapped up together. It's been a daily battle against self and what it wants. I've found that I must start each day giving myself to God. Psalms 143:8 is posted above my desk. It says:
I not only have to give myself to God every morning, I also have to give our ministry to God every morning. This ministry is not about us and what we can accomplish. It's about what God has called us to do and us being obedient to that calling for the ultimate purpose of bringing glory to Him.
My One Word for 2013 is "reckless". When I came across this quote I knew I needed it posted above my desk as a constant reminder of who I'm living for.
I want to recklessly abandon living for earthly comfort, entertainment and worldly success. I gladly give up the family vacations, new clothes, new cars and big house so that we can serve Christ both here in Dayton and overseas. I want my life to be focused on being like Jesus. I want the Greater Dayton FCA ministry to be ALL for the Lord. When God opens a door, I want to recklessly go forward and not spend my time and energy focused on all of the obstacles that are in our way. I know that my God can make the impossible possible!! We're asking some BIG things of God in 2013 and we know He has the power to do exceedingly above all that we ask or think.
We need your help prayer warriors. We need you to come along side of us and cover this ministry in prayer in 2013. God is giving us so many opportunities to minister here and overseas. Want to know how to pray specifically for this ministry? Here is a rundown of what's coming up so far this year:
~ Ministry Funding: With Rich's unemployment pay coming to an end, we're looking to raise enough support to cover basic living expenses, provide a monthly stipend to our part-time rep, and cover administrative costs. Our short-term goal is $3,300 per month. This will allow Rich to continue to focus on the FCA ministry full-time and give us more time to become 100% funded. Our ultimate goal this year is full funding, which is a little more than $12,000 per month. Please join us in praying that we're able to connect with donors both large and small. And if you'd like to become a donor, click that button at the top of the page.
~ Current Huddles: Please pray for the huddles at Tipp, Wayne, Vandalia & Meadowdale to continue to grow and for the students to invite friends.
~ New Huddles: Please pray for the final logistics to be worked out for huddles at Beavercreek & Northridge High School so that those huddles can officially get started. Pray also for contacts that have been made at Troy, Stebbins, Northmont, Brookville & Dixie High School.
~FCA Night at WSU - We were invited to host a FCA night at a Wright State University basketball game. Please pray that details will be finalized so we can complete the planning of this event.
~Sport's Camp - We're partnering with the Salvation Army for a sport's camp for 6 - 12 yr olds and with the State Convention of Baptists for a sport's camp for 11 -14 yr olds. Please pray for all of the coaches and volunteers who will be working with the kids during these camps.
~Overseas Sports Camps- We have been asked to organize sports camps in Colombia & Haiti, so we need to make an initial trip down to these locations in April or May of this year to evaluate the facilities and determine how the camps will run. Please join us in praying for the funding to purchase airline tickets for Rich & myself to make these trips. The Haiti camp will be baseball & soccer and will take place sometime in late November. The Colombia camp will be soccer and will most likely take place in the spring or summer of 2014.
~ National Speaking Engagements- Rich has had the opportunity to share his testimony at other churches and at OBI in Kentucky. Please pray for us as we seek God's direction on speaking at more churches, chapel services and events in other areas as a way to raise funds for the ministry.
Even though the funding isn't there yet, God is opening up so many opportunities for this ministry. We know He is going to provide for every need in His timing. And while we wait expectantly, we'll continue to take steps of obedience and continue to serve Him. It reminds me of a song by John Waller called "While I'm Waiting". It says, "I'm waiting on You, Lord and I am hopeful
I'm waiting on You, Lord though it is painful
But patiently, I will wait
I will move ahead, bold and confident
Taking every step in obedience
While I'm waiting I will serve You
While I'm waiting I will worship
While I'm waiting I will not faint
I'll be running the race even while I wait
We will continue to serve the Lord while we wait for Him to do amazing things for the Greater Dayton FCA.
