That is a phrase that is used in hundreds of quotes, sayings and greeting cards. "Life is too short to be alone." "Life is too short to be anything but happy." "Life is too short to waste time worrying about what others think about you." "Life is too short to be too serious" "Life is too short to not party hard, make mistakes and laugh endlessly. You're only young once." "Life is short, so do what you desire." "Life is too short to be miserable, if you're not happy with something, change it."
While those sayings may sell greeting cards or give people warm and fuzzy feelings, they're dangerous viewpoints for a Christian. It is a true fact that our time on this earth is short. James 4:14 says "What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes." In Psalm 144:4 it says "Man is like a breath; his days are like a fleeting shadow." As Christians, our short time on this earth is not about us. Let me say that again. Our short time on this earth is not about us. We were not created to go through life fulfilling our own desires. It's not about endless entertainment and making sure we're happy all of the time.
We were created for one purpose...to bring glory to God. As Christians, our sole purpose in this life is to glorify God. When we live to fulfill that purpose we will suffer persecution, betrayal, and slander. Life will not always be easy, but we will count it all joy to suffer for Christ. We will surrender our own selfish desires for excess material posessions so we can help others in need. We will not seek happiness in earthly things, instead we will seek after joy in the Lord.
Life is too short to ignore God's call to take His gospel to all nations. There are currently 2.8 billion people or 41% of the earth's population who have never heard the name of Jesus. Life is too short to waste our time and resources on excess while our brothers and sisters around the world are dying from starvation and lack of clean drinking water. Life is too short to minimize the seriousness of God's punishment for rejecting His Son....eternity in hell.
Life is too short to refuse to surrender everything and live every moment glorifying God.
