Tonight I had the opportunity to go to a screening of the movie "Mom's Night Out". I was so happy that my friend Priscilla was able to go with me. After watching the trailer of the movie, I knew she had to come with me!! As a mom of 5, I knew she could appreciate the need for a night out. Plus we both have an appreciation for the art of sarcastic humor.
Mom's Night Out centers around a mom named Allyson who is stressed out, exhausted and in need of a night out with her friends who are in the same stressed out state. Her best friend Izzy is dealing with a husband who is afraid to be left alone with their twins. Her friend Sondra is the pastor's wife dealing with the challenges of a teenage daughter. All they want is a peaceful, grown-up evening of dinner and adult conversation. In order to enjoy their night out, they need their husbands to watch the kids for three hours. Just a few hours so they can unplug and breathe.....what could go wrong?
Watch this trailer and you'll get a glimpse of the chaos that ensues during those few hours......http://ow.ly/vjMSL
This movie had me laughing so hard that I was crying and almost peed my pants....(I'm sure moms out there understand that extra special bonus of motherhood). Amidst all of the humor, there were some serious moments as well.
Some real honest acknowledgement that motherhood is crazy hard and that many days we feel like we've failed our kids, our husband, our friends and God. We don't like ourselves and sometimes we don't like our children either. We beat ourselves up and don't feel like we're the right person for the job. But the one thing that we must realize is that God has given each of us the children that we have.
He's chosen you to be their mom because you are the best person for that job. Stop beating yourself up for not being the perfect mom. Instead enjoy the beautiful mess of being a mom to the children under your roof.
As moms we can all use a night out with friends to have some fun and adult conversation. I highly recommend taking the time to go see Mom's Night Out. It's a great, clean, family-friendly movie. You could take the whole family, but I recommend making it a girl's night!!!
Mom's Night Out opens May 9th....just in time for Mother's Day. Get your friends together and go see it.
