As we started this year, we felt that God was leading us to return to Nicaragua this summer. We prayed about taking the entire family, but decided to just take Christian & Noah. However, after an info meeting on the youth trip to Haiti, Christian wanted to go to Haiti. So we made the commitment for Rich, Noah and I to go to Nicaragua and Christian to go to Haiti. With Rich being on unemployment we had no idea where the funds would come from, but we knew that God had put this desire in our hearts. We also knew that God would provide. And he has proven so faithful!!
Back in February, our church had WOW! Sunday where all offerings are used to fund short term missions. That offering was over $80,000!! That meant that our needed funds dropped to $300 each. That was a huge blessing but still meant that we needed $1200 total for the four of us to be able to go. So we mailed out a few fundrasing letters to family and out-of-state friends. We also began praying, asking God to provide the money that we needed.
God began answering in a BIG way!! We received donations from family members and from a friend of a family member who we don't even know. Rich was given the opportunity to do a little part-time work. Christian has also had the opportunity to work for a friend. I got a call from a company I have never done any assignments for and they gave me 3 great paying assignments. Noah got a job delivering the local paper one day a week!!
Little by little the funds are coming in. By the end of this week we will have reduced our funds needed to just $600. And we know that God is not done yet. He has been so faithful during this difficult season and is showing us that He is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us. (Eph. 3:20)
I'm so excited to see how God provides the remaining funds. I am so thankful that I serve a powerful, amazing God who is able. "God is able ,He will never fail, He is almighty God, Greater than all we seek, Greater than all we ask, He has done great things" (Hillsong "God is Able")
