So today I was not very productive on the "4 weeks to a more organized home" assignments! I'm using Halloween as my excuse!! That and the fact that I slept until noon in preparation for late night work assignments tonight. So I'll just have to be more productive on day 4 to get things done.
I did bring in the leaves & trunk for our Thankful Tree that we start tomorrow night. We have lots of leaves from the past few years that I'll go ahead and put up. Then each night throughout November we'll add 6 more leaves...1 for each of us. We will have a very full tree this year!!
My other major accomplishment for today was creating my Christmas budget for the "30 days to prepare for Christmas" challenge. Now that I have an actual budget written down, I just need to stick to it. This year since we celebrate Christmas with my family right after Thanksgiving, it will spread the expenses out a bit more.
I hope your day 3 was more porductive than mine. But if it wasn't don't give up. Just try again tomorrow!!
So day 2 got off to a late start but I was still able to get the challenge done. I spent my morning at Bible study and then made a quick trip to the grocery store. After lunch I sat down and began my assignments for the day.
I really like starting each day by taking time to create goals. It helps me focus and get specific things done. Otherwise I get to the end of the day having no clue what I accomplished!!
Today I spent a little time in the kitchen. I cleaned out the fridge and sorted through the wire rack full of kitchen utensils. I didn't find any gadgets to give away but I did throw out a few worn out potholders, some broken cookie cutters, and random plastic containers with no lids. So my 7 items to give away today were given to the trash can!!
I also made some progress in my 30 Days to Prepare for Christmas by making my list of gift recipients. This year we will be celebrating "Thanksgivingmas" with my family. We alternate holidays and this year we travel to Georgia for Thanksgiving and while we're together we'll celebrate Christmas as well.
On Thanksgiving Day, we'll have a great big family dinner full of parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, cousins, aunts & uncles. We'll catch up with family that we haven't seen since last Christmas and the boys will head outside for a game of football.
Then on Friday my 4 kids and my 5 nieces will help Grammy (my mom) decorate her Christmas tree. We'll get up Saturday morning and celebrate Christmas with my parents, siblings & their families. So getting a jump start on my gift list is a must this year.
I'm excited to keep making a little progress each day!!
So today was the start of my 4 Weeks to a More Organized Home. I'm also combining that with 30 Days to Prepare for Christmas from centsablemomma.com . I'm excited to see how things go each day.
Today I created a written morning routine. I haven't really had a set morning routine other than getting kids off to school and doing morning devotions. Beyond that my day was just whatever I chose to do. While the flexibility is nice, without a set routine I find myself doing lots of reading & blogging and slacking on the unfun stuff like doing laundry, vacuuming & cleaning out the fridge.
So my goal for this challenge is to get more of a balance so I have time to do the fun stuff and still have a clean, organized home. With the holidays quickly approaching, I thought it would be good to incorporate preparing for Christmas as part of my daily list. I found a great list with daily suggestions to help get me prepared now to reduce stress and chaos come December.
Today's assignments didn't take me very long and I'm hapy with the little bit of progress made. I decided since the sweats I slept in made me feel great, I'd just keep them on!! At least until time for me to go out for some errands!! So maybe I didn't follow the first assignment exactly, but whatver works, right??
I've been needing to sort through my stack of books, so I used that as my "Find 7 things to get rid of today". And actually I reduced my stack by 11 books!! So I see day 1 as a success for me.
How about you? How did your day go?
On Monday I will start "4 Weeks to a More Organized Home" . It's a simple way to do a few things a day, 5 days a week to get your home more organized. I think now is a great time to start because I'll be done just in time for the busy holiday season.
I would love for you to join me and help hold me accountable. You see I have this problem with starting challenges with excitement and momentum and then after a few days I lose motivation and skip a day, then another day. And before you know it, I've quit the challenge all together. My house becomes more of a mess because I've cleaned out all the closets & drawers but never distributed them. So the stuff either gets crammed back in the closet or piled in the garage.
Well, no more!! This time I will get control of the clutter and the junk and get my home more organized to help me with my new lifestyle choice of "living simply so others can simply live."
